What does a website cost in Berlin? An honest, practical answer.
The real answer is: anywhere from a few hundred euros to tens of thousands, depending on what you actually need. This guide breaks down what drives the price, what realistic ranges look like for small businesses, and where fixed-price packages like mine fit in.

Website cost Berlin: what are you actually comparing?
When people search for “website cost Berlin” they find wildly different numbers. That’s because they’re comparing very different things.
- DIY website builders (Wix, Squarespace, IONOS): €0–€30/month. You do all the work. Can be fine for a very simple online presence, but you’re constrained by the platform’s templates and limitations. SEO and performance tend to be average at best.
- Cheap template agencies / offshore platforms: €300–€800 one-off. You get something fast and it looks reasonable. Quality varies a lot. You may end up with a site that needs redoing in 18 months, or one that works fine for years. Hard to predict.
- Freelancer (Berlin-based, professional): roughly €750–€3,000 for a small business site. This is the range where you get a real person, consistent quality, and usually a sensible technical foundation. My own packages sit in this tier.
- Berlin digital agency: €3,000–€15,000+ for a standard site. You get a team, account management, and a more formal process. That overhead has real value for some projects; for a 5-page business website, it’s often more than you need.
- Custom development / complex platforms: €10,000 and up, sometimes far up. E-commerce with custom logic, booking systems, integrations, multilingual portals: these take real engineering time and the price reflects that.
Seven factors that push a website cost up or down
Most of the difference between two quotes comes down to these seven things, not to one builder being greedier than another.
- Number of pages: a 4-page site is genuinely faster to build than a 20-page one. More pages means more content, more layout decisions, and more testing.
- Custom design vs. template: starting from a carefully chosen theme and adapting it is faster than designing every component from scratch. Both can look great; the difference is mostly in flexibility and uniqueness.
- E-commerce: adding a shop (WooCommerce or similar) adds significant setup time: product pages, payment gateways, shipping rules, tax logic, and testing across edge cases.
- Multilingual content: building a bilingual site (German + English, for example) roughly doubles the content work. The technical setup is manageable (a plugin like Polylang handles it); the translation and the QA are what take time.
- Content creation: If you can provide your own copy and photos, this keeps the cost down significantly. If you need copywriting, photography, or both, factor that in separately.
- SEO foundations: basic on-page SEO (title tags, structure, schema) should be included in any decent build. More in-depth keyword research or an SEO strategy is additional work and should be scoped separately.
- Ongoing maintenance: don’t forget this. Hosting, a domain, plugin updates, security patches, and small tweaks add up to roughly €20–€150/month depending on how much support you want.
My fixed-price WordPress packages: what you get and what they cost
Three fixed-price packages for small businesses and solo founders, with no scope creep that quietly doubles the bill.
Starter
A clean, fast WordPress site for a straightforward online presence, ideal for a freelancer, trades business, or anyone who needs a professional site without anything complex. Typically 4–5 pages, mobile-optimised, with basic on-page SEO set up from the start.
Business
For businesses that need more: more pages, a refined design, a blog or news section, and a stronger SEO foundation. This is the most common choice for Berlin-based service businesses and consultancies. Includes a walkthrough call and a month of post-launch support.
Growth
The full package: deeper SEO groundwork, multilingual setup (e.g. German + English via Polylang), schema markup, more complex layouts, and a more thorough handover. Right for companies whose site needs to bring in enquiries, not just exist.
These prices are fixed, agreed upfront, not subject to “change requests” for things that were clearly in scope. I’m a solo freelancer working from Berlin, not an agency with layers of overhead. That keeps costs lower without cutting corners on the work itself. Full package details are on the pricing page.
After the build: what a website costs to run
The build fee is one-off. These are the recurring costs to factor into your budget. They apply regardless of who builds the site.
- Domain name: typically €10–€20/year for a .de or .com domain. Already registered? No extra cost here.
- Hosting: for a WordPress site, managed hosting runs €5–€30/month. Budget shared hosting is cheap but slow; decent managed hosting (like Hostinger or SiteGround) is worth the small extra cost for a business site.
- SSL certificate: usually included free with most hosts via Let’s Encrypt. If not, around €5–€15/year.
- WordPress plugins: many are free. Premium plugins for forms, SEO, backup, security can add €50–€200/year depending on what you need. I include the essentials in every build.
- Maintenance & updates: WordPress core, theme, and plugin updates should happen regularly (at least monthly). If you do this yourself it’s just time; if you want someone to handle it, budget €30–€100/month for a care plan.
- Content updates: small text changes can usually be done in WordPress yourself. Larger redesigns or new page builds are typically charged by the hour or as a small fixed project.
A rough total for a small business WordPress site in Berlin: €80–€200/year in baseline running costs if you manage it yourself, or €500–€1,200/year if you want someone to handle maintenance and have a support contact for small updates.
