Local SEO Freelancer Berlin: get found by the customers nearest you
I’m Eric Wilkinson, an independent local SEO freelancer based in Berlin. I work on the things that decide whether you turn up in Google Maps and in local results: your Google Business Profile, the pages for the areas you serve, your reviews, and the small inconsistencies that quietly hold a listing back. One person doing the work, €75 an hour, no agency in between.
Thirty minutes, no pitch. I’ll tell you what I’d fix first, whether or not you hire me.
Where a local customer actually finds you
Local search isn’t one list. You’re competing in three different places at once, and they don’t all work the same way. Knowing which one you’re losing tells you what to fix.
The map pack
The three results with the map above them. This is where most local calls and direction taps go, and it is driven mainly by your Google Business Profile, not by your website. If you are invisible here, the profile is usually the problem.
The local blue links
The normal results underneath. Here it is your website doing the work: the page for the service, the page for the area, and how well the site is actually built. A site can rank nationally and still lose every local search.
AI answers
ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity increasingly answer “who should I call near me” on the spot. They lean on the same public signals: your profile, your listings elsewhere and your reviews. More in my guides on AI search.

What I actually do on a local SEO job
Not a fixed package. I start with whatever is holding you back most and work down from there.
- Google Business Profile. Categories, services, hours, photos, posts and the fields most profiles leave half empty. This is the single biggest lever you have in the map pack.
- Pages for the places you serve. A real page for each district or town you want work from, written for what people there search, not the same page with the name swapped.
- Name, address and phone consistency. Checking how your details appear across directories and data sources, and correcting what doesn’t match. Old listings after a move are the usual culprit.
- Reviews, the legitimate way. A simple routine for asking real customers at the right moment. Nothing bought, nothing incentivised, nothing that puts your profile at risk.
- Local keyword research. The words your customers actually type, mapped to the right page and the right profile category. More on SEO.
- Local markup and on-page basics. LocalBusiness schema, titles, headings and internal links so Google and AI assistants can read who you are and where you work. More on technical SEO.
- Tracking by area, not city-wide. Map rankings change from street to street, so I track them per district rather than reporting one flattering number.
- Plain reporting. What moved, what didn’t, and what I’d do next. In language you can act on without a glossary.
Six things you can check yourself in ten minutes
Worth doing before you pay anybody, me included. If all six look fine, your problem is probably somewhere else and I’ll tell you so.
- Search your main service plus your district, in a private browser window. Are you in the three map results? If not, look at who is, and what their profile has that yours doesn’t.
- Open your profile and read the primary category. It does more for your map ranking than almost anything else on there, and most are set once and never looked at again.
- Check your opening hours, including holidays. Wrong hours cost you visits, and Google pays attention when customers keep correcting them.
- Search your business name in quotes. Look at how your address and phone number appear on older directory entries. Mismatches are extremely common.
- Count your reviews against the top three in the map pack. You don’t need to beat them, but a large gap is a real handicap and it takes months to close.
- Open your own site on your phone and time it. If it takes more than a few seconds, the click you worked so hard for is already gone.
What it costs: €75 per hour, nothing hidden
That is the rate for all of it: the profile work, the local pages, the listings clean-up and the calls in between. Most local jobs start as one defined piece of work that we scope together, so you get a fixed quote and know the number before I begin. After that you can keep me on month to month, or not.
Book a call with me, not a sales team
Thirty minutes, free. We open your Google Business Profile and your site together and I tell you what I would fix first. If I am not the right person for the job, I will say so.

Why a freelancer for local SEO, and when not
Local SEO is rarely a big-team job. Most of it is careful, specific work on one profile, a handful of pages and a list of directory entries that nobody has looked at in years. With an agency you pay for an account manager, a process and everybody in between. With me you get the person doing the work, and you always know who that is.
The honest limit: I am one person. If you have dozens of locations and need a team on it every week, I’ll say that on the first call rather than take the money. Up to a handful of locations, one person who knows your business tends to be the better deal. If you want the wider picture on that, I wrote it up on my SEO freelancer page.
